Ahead of the budget session of the Maharashtra Assembly, BJP legislators on Thursday staged a protest on the steps of the Vidhan Bhavan here against the state government’s decision not to remove minister Nawab Malik from his post.

Last week, the Enforcement Directorate arrested state Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik in connection with a money laundering probe into the activities of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his associates.

On Thursday, BJP MLAs led by Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Devendra Fadnavis, LOP in the Legislative Council Pravin Darekar and State BJP President Chandrakant Patil raised slogans against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress. ,

This MVA government is sympathetic to those who helped Dawood and his associates, convicted in the (1993) Mumbai bombings. Fadnavis said that we condemn the decision to retain Malik as a minister while there has been an example of removal of a minister who was arrested on some charges.

The budget session of the state legislature starting from Thursday will end on March 25. The opposition BJP in Maharashtra has said that it wants the current session to be fruitful and wants to discuss several issues provided the MVA government sacks Malik.

The MVA leaders took on the BJP, claiming that the saffron party was using central agencies to target the state government.
