BJP Names 10 Mayoral Candidates For UP Urban Local Body Polls, Drops Prayagraj Mayor

LUCKNOW: The BJP on Sunday dropped the wife of Uttar Pradesh minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and mayor of Prayagraj from its list of candidates as it announced mayoral candidates for 10 urban local bodies ahead of next month’s polls. BJP has fielded Umesh Chandra Kesarwani in place of Nandi’s wife Abhilasha Nandi.

This list was released by the Uttar Pradesh unit chief of the party, Bhupendra Singh Chowdhary. BJP’s state executive member Sushma Khadakwal has been nominated from Lucknow, Manglesh Srivastava from Gorakhpur and Ashok Tiwari from Varanasi.

According to the list, Vinod Agarwal from Moradabad, Kamini Rathore from Firozabad, Hemlata Diwakar from Agra, Ajay Kumar from Saharanpur, Vinod Kumar Agarwal from Mathura-Vrindavan and Bihari Lal Arya from Jhansi have been nominated. Urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in two phases on May 4 and May 11. The counting of votes will take place on May 13.
