BJP MP Nishikant Dubey demands ban on cryptocurrency, says ‘the whole world is upset by this’

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Monday demanded a ban on cryptocurrencies, saying they are based on darknet technology and will be used for drugs, prostitution and terrorism.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, he compared the situation in the country regarding cryptocurrencies with the ‘tulip frenzy’ in Holland in the 1600s.

“Since 2013-14, our member Shivkumar Udasi has been arguing that it should be stopped, it is based on dark net technology and it will be used only for drugs, prostitution, terrorism, weapons,” Dubey said.

He said, ‘The whole world is troubled by this. RBI is constantly saying that there should be a complete ban on this.

Dubey said that no one has blockchain technology and if there is no owner then how will its activity be controlled.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the government is preparing a new bill on cryptocurrencies which will be tabled in the ongoing session of Parliament after the approval of the Union Cabinet.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Ravneet Singh Bittu raised the issue of Punjab Aam Aadmi Party president Bhagwant Mann, claiming that a senior BJP leader offered him “money” to join the saffron party ahead of the state assembly elections next year. And given a place in the Union Cabinet. Bittu asked the government to come clean on this issue.
