Maharashtra Political Crisis: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that the central government is taking action against those who are “telling the truth”. Mamata’s remarks came hours after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate. ,

Mamata Banerjee claimed that common people are being “persecuted” under the BJP and as a result several lakh people, including traders, have left the country.

“The BJP is doing whatever it wants to do… It is using central agencies like CBI and ED against those who tell the truth,” he said at an event here. She has made the same allegation on several occasions in the past as well.

Banerjee, who is also the TMC supremo, said, “Today I saw that a Shiv Sena leader (Sanjay Raut) in Maharashtra has been summoned by the ED. Why would he (BJP) give pain to common people like this? Is this the way? run democracy?

“Several lakhs of people and businessmen have left the country in the last few years,” he claimed. “You can check it from the passport and visa offices.” The ED on Tuesday summoned Rajya Sabha MP Raut to its office in the western metropolis for questioning in a money laundering probe related to the redevelopment of a ‘chawl’ in Mumbai and other financial transactions involving his wife and friends.
