NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his campaign in Uttar Pradesh and sought support from the people for a stronger India. Expressing confidence that the BJP will win in the politically crucial northern state, Modi said the BJP will score a four in the state.
He was referring to a spat of victories that began with his 2014 Lok Sabha triumph followed by 2017 state assembly and 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Modi also campaigned in Manipur where he asserted that the state would be India’s gateway to east-Asia.
Meanwhile, in Goa, opposition parties sought bringing to a halt the police recruitment drive being carried out by the state’s BJP government.

Uttar Pradesh:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said when turmoil in prevailing in the world, India needs to be stronger and for difficult times, a tough leader is needed. Addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, Modi also predicted the BJP’s win the Assembly polls. The BJP is all set to hit a four in the Assembly polls, he said.
Hitting out at the rivals, Modi said in the name of “garibi hatao” and Samajwad (socialism), they looted the country.
He questioned the “silence” of opposition parties over the court verdict in the Ahmedabad blasts case, saying the country has come to know who were helping them (terrorists).
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi in Pryagraj accused the Samajwadi Party of trying to get Muslim votes in the UP Assembly polls by making them scared of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,
Voting for 59 assembly constituencies spread in nine districts of Uttar Pradesh will take place on Wednesday in the fourth phase of the polls.
Manipur:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Manipur would be the gateway of the East Asian countries for which the railway connectivity is being extended in the northeastern state.
The Prime Minister said that Manipur would be linked with Myanmar and Thailand through the easy connectivity between India and the East Asian countries boosting trade and tourism.
“The days are not far away when Manipur capital would be linked by the broad gauge railway network.Currently, 40 National Highway projects are also being implemented in Manipur,” Modi said while addressing an election rally in Imphal.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of peddling “lies” at his Manipur rally and asked why he was “completely silent” on the state’s fundamental issues such as AFSPA, MSP and rising prices of essential commodities.
Punjab:
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been given Z-plus security cover during his 21-day release on furlough from a Haryana jail where he has been serving a sentence, officials said. Singh was given the high-category security cover after his release on February 7 due to a high-level threat to his life from “pro-Khalistan” elements, he said.
“In case the prisoner is released on parole, Z-plus security protection or equivalent may be provided as per existing rules, regulations etc as he faces a high-level threat from radical Sikh extremists in India and abroad,” a recent communication from a senior Haryana police official to the Rohtak Range Commissioner said.
Uttarakhand:
The BJP central leadership has issued a “stern” warning to the party leaders in Uttarakhand, especially those who have contested the Assembly polls, telling them “not to speak against the party”.
The warning was issued after some of the party candidates accused the state leaders of helping their rival candidates in the state assembly polls held on February 14.
A senior office bearer of the BJP said that now onwards “no one” will speak against the Uttarakhand state leadership for “sabotaging” the election or anything contrary to the party line.
Goa:
Goa’s Chief Electoral Officer has sought reports from the returning officers of both districts and director general of police (DGP) in connection with the alleged violations reported during ballot paper voting for the legislative Assembly elections held on February 14, an official said. Talking to PTI, Chief Electoral Officer Kunal said North and South Goa district returning officers and the DGP were on Monday asked to submit a report within three days about the alleged violations reported during ballot paper voting for service voters.
The election for all the 40 Assembly constituencies of Goa was held on February 14 and the vote counting will take place on March 10.
The Congress and the Goa Forward Party on Tuesday demanded that the Election Commission halt the police recruitment drive planned by the Pramod Sawant government in the coastal state.
