According to leaders of Bengal’s ruling camp, Abhishek Banerjee, in his meeting with TMC MPs, had rubbished allegations that the party was trying to drive a nail in the opposition as “baseless”.
“Our leader Abhishek Banerjee has said that the party will continue to expand in other states. Congress and CPM had fought against TMC in the last assembly elections and indirectly helped the BJP. So if it was not in opposition unity So how is TMC’s expansion to other states a problem?” A senior TMC MP wanted to know.
Responding to the editorial, senior Congress leader Shuvankar Sarkar challenged the TMC to prove its credentials on an all-India platform.

The TMC leadership blamed the Congress for its “weak approach” in fighting the BJP.
He said, “The Congress is not serious about fighting the BJP. Its stand is loose. Our party supremo Mamata Banerjee proposed to set up a joint steering committee, but nothing happened. We never said that we are without Congress. The opposition wants an alliance. But if they want it, TMC’s state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said, “Sit idle, we cannot be blamed.”
The TMC, which is trying to make inroads into the political landscape of other states, is taking up arms against the Congress over its alleged failure to counter the BJP.
In a bid to enter the political arena of Tripura in a big way, the TMC recently entered into a bitter battle with the BJP during the municipal elections there. It is also gearing up to contest the assembly elections in Goa to project Mamata Banerjee as the most prominent anti-BJP voice.
In a major setback to the Congress in Meghalaya, 12 of its 17 MLAs recently joined the TMC under former chief minister Mukul Sangma.
The Trinamool Congress also said that it is not interested in coordinating with the Congress during the winter session of Parliament and does not want to play a second role for the old party.
