BJD leaders and workers of Biju Krishak Janata Dal staged protests in Bhubaneswar and various districts on Wednesday. Biju Krishak Janata Dal protested near Raj Bhavan, alleging that the central government is not taking necessary steps to provide fertilizers as per the action plan, so farmers are facing lot of problems for agricultural activities during Kharif season. is falling.

The party leaders demanded immediate supply of manure for the crop. The BJD said that the party will raise its voice in the interest of farmers. He immediately submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the Governor of Odisha for the supply of fertilizers. As per the action plan, the central government has assured to provide 4,50,000 metric tonnes of urea, 2,00,000 metric tonnes of DAP, 1,00,000 metric tonnes of MOP and 1,00,00 tonnes of complex fertilizers to the state. But the state has received 3,10,000 metric tonnes of urea, 1,85,000 metric tonnes of DAP, 85,000 metric tonnes of MOP and 1,82,000 complex fertilisers. In such a situation, farmers are facing problems in agricultural work.

BJD general secretary Sanjay Dasbarma said, “This year the farmers of Odisha have cultivated 61.96 lakh hectares of land. The Center along with the state government had agreed an action plan to ensure adequate supply of urea to the farmers. There is a time norm for supply of urea and DAP to farmers, but the Center has failed to distribute it. It is a matter of concern and unfortunate that the Center is not working as per the agreed action plan and has miserably failed to provide them with fertilizers. We will intensify the movement for the interest of the farmers of the state.”

Senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya said that the farmers are facing the brunt of the negligence of the central government.

Responding to BJD’s allegation Golak Mohapatra, the BJP spokesperson said, “The central government is providing enough fertilizers to Odisha. The state has received 3.64 lakh metric tonnes of urea against the requirement of 3.10 lakh metric tonnes. Similarly, against the requirement of 1.72 lakh MT, 1.86 lakh MT DAP has been received and against the requirement of 85,000 MT, 96,000 MT MOP has been received. All these figures are available on the website, so BJD should react to it.”

Raising the issue, Congress spokesperson Rajinikanth Mohanty said: “Farmers are suffering instead of playing the blame game, both the central and state governments should take appropriate steps for the interest of farmers.”

Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written a letter to Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya on the short supply of fertilizers to the state.

“Farmers in the state have suffered severe crop losses due to the recent YAAS and several cyclonic storms during the past years. Hence, to optimize their production the most important input i.e. fertilizer should be supplied as per requirement,” he wrote to Mandaviya.

A delegation of BJD MPs met the Union Minister in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum demanding supply of fertilizers. The MPs requested Mandaviya to intervene to ensure that the farmers of Odisha are provided the required quantity of fertilizers as per the monthly allocation during the current Kharif season.
