Bihar: Suspected of another poisonous liquor, two died in Muzaffarpur

Eight people died after allegedly consuming alcohol in Telhua village of Bettiah, the headquarters of West Champaran district, on Thursday.

At least four people died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor at Kanti in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, officials said on Tuesday.

The villagers claimed that the deceased were part of a group of five persons who had consumed alcohol. Others also complained of losing their sight and were admitted to a hospital in Juran Chapra area, where their condition is stated to be critical.

When contacted, the police officials refused to comment on the incident. The Excise Department is probing the incident.

Earlier, last week 33 people have died and many others have become ill due to consumption of spurious liquor in two districts of Bihar. According to reports, there have been deaths in Gopalganj and West Champaran districts.

Eight people died on Thursday after allegedly consuming alcohol in Telhua village of Bettiah, the headquarters of West Champaran district, while the death toll in another incident of suspected spurious consumption in Gopalganj rose to 16 on Thursday, while the district Six more deaths were confirmed in officials.
