Patna: Unknown armed criminals robbed 20 lakh rupees ATM Kiosk using a gas cutter that was located on Kacchi-Pakki road under Sadar Thana area of Muzaffarpur on Sunday.
The incident is said to have occurred between 2 pm and 3 pm, when it was raining heavily in the area. However, the incident was reported to the police around 1 pm.
Sadar police station in-charge Satyendra Kumar Mishra He said the kiosk belonged to Axis Bank and the matter came to light when a caretaker went to the spot in the afternoon to open and clean it for public use.
“The thieves used a gas cutter to cut the iron chest inside the kiosk which contained all the cash. There was no alert from Axis Bank officials that the kiosk was damaged. Right now, the police have preliminary information that Rs 20 was stolen from the kiosk,” said SHO Mishra.
The SHO said that the thieves had also burnt the CCTV camera installed inside the kiosk with a gas cutter.
Responding to a query, he said, “We are probing the matter. It will be clear whether it was being run directly by Axis Bank or any other private firm on its behalf after the bank officials provide us the full details.” ”
The SHO said that the kiosk operated during the day and was closed daily at night. “The criminals first damaged the shutter of the kiosk to gain entry. Later they probably took their time to quietly cut the machine and collect the money,” he said.
Mishra said that while fleeing, the criminals once again completely knocked down the shutter so that no one inside could see that the ATM kiosk was open in the morning.
“Police is probing the matter. Footage of CCTV cameras in the neighborhood is being monitored to identify the suspects and how they reached the spot,” he said.
The SHO said that the authorities have not yet submitted a written application. “They are ascertaining the amount which was left inside when the kiosk was closed on Saturday night,” he said. He said further investigation is on.
