Police said the slain soldier’s father was arrested on charges of illegally erecting a memorial for his son. Relatives allege that the police beat up the youth inside and outside the police station

A three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CID has been constituted to probe the alleged incident of attack on the police and the father of a soldier who was killed in the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes. There was ruckus on the third day of the budget as well as the session in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, as BJP MLAs protested against the incident, calling it an insult to the martyr’s family.

The SIT was formed by the Bihar DGP headed by ADG Madan Anand after CNN-News18 reported on Tuesday that the police in Vaishali arrested Raj Kapoor Singh, father of constable Jai Kishore Singh, under the SC/ST Act at midnight on Feb. was arrested under 25. The family alleges that there was thrashing inside and outside the police station.

According to the police, disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty in the incident. The police, however, said that Raj Kapoor Singh was illegally building a memorial for his son.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Finally spoke when BJP MLAs started walking out of the budget session on Wednesday. Though he tried to persuade them, it was too late.

“I have had a conversation with the Union Minister. Don’t worry action will be taken. I came to know about the matter yesterday. I have asked the officials to look into the matter. The investigation is on,” said Kumar.

Taking cognizance of the report, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to the Chief Minister over the incident. He condemned the act and expressed his displeasure over Kumar’s assurance that appropriate action would be taken in the matter.

BJP dissatisfied, will continue the strike

The BJP MLAs protested in the assembly with placards in their hands and even directed the chairs at the reporting table. Speaker Awadh Bihari Chowdhary warned them and called in marshals to intervene, who removed the banners and posters.

The MLAs included Leader of Opposition Vijay Kumar Sinha, former minister Neeraj Kumar Bablu, Lalganj MLA Sanjay Singh and others. Sinha, however, when given an opportunity to speak, said that the soldier’s family has been insulted and it is a serious matter.

“Our army does not belong to any political party. He is being constantly insulted by RJD ministers. Tejashwi Yadav should ask his minister to apologize and take action against the policemen who forcefully picked up the martyr’s father and assaulted him.

Responding to the Leader of Opposition, Yadav said, ‘I also come from the same district. We went to meet the family in 2020 but you (Vijay Sinha) never went. We could have built the memorial on government land but not on anyone else’s land. We sympathize with the family. He demanded to build a memorial. Even though we were not in the government then, we had promised that our party would build the memorial.

The BJP has continued its protest inside and outside the assembly. According to sources, a delegation of party MLAs will visit the village and continue their protest till the family gets justice.

It is seen in the CCTV footage that the police personnel took away Raj Kapoor Singh on the midnight of 25 February. The family alleged that she was abused and assaulted. Later on the evening of 28 February, the police issued a release justifying the arrest.

The release did not mention the charges for the alleged assault, but that every section imposed and action taken were in accordance with the law.

State Finance Minister Vijay Chowdhary also denied knowledge of the incident.

But Building and Construction Minister Ashok Chowdhary, speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, said that what happened was condemnable and if the police were involved, action would be taken after a thorough investigation.
