Patna: Former MLA Prema Choudhary, who represented the Patepur (SC) seat in the Bihar Assembly thrice, on Sunday announced to quit the JD(U), alleging that he was not given due “respect and position” in the ruling party, besides The party’s emblem was denied to contest the 2020 elections. Chowdhury had left RJD and joined the ruling JD(U) on August 17, 2020, a few months before the 2020 assembly elections, in the hope that the JD(U) leadership would give him the party symbol to contest from his traditional seat of Patepur or neighboring Rajpakar . Choudhary on Sunday invited media persons to his home in Hajipur town of Vaishali district and formally announced his decision to quit the ruling JD(U). “From today I am leaving the JD(U),” she told reporters.
When contacted, Choudhary told TOI on Sunday that she would return to her old party RJD after a month. “Right now, it is the month of ‘Bhado’, (considered an auspicious month for new beginnings), I will join RJD after the end of Bhado,” she said.
Chaudhary also claimed that he had spoken to the RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav for her return and Tejashwi agrees to take her back. RJD is like my home. Tejashwi ji asked me to return to my old home,” she said.
Chaudhary was earlier in the RJD. He represented Patepur seat as an RJD MLA thrice- first time in 2000, second time in October 2005 and third time in 2015. She also held the post of state president of RJD’s women’s wing till Lalu Prasad left the party in August last year. The election symbol of the party from JD(U).
“I joined JD(U) only after getting a firm assurance of contesting the 2020 assembly elections from Patepur seat on the JD(U) symbol. The top leadership of JDU gave this assurance. But I was not given the party symbol. When Patepur seat went to ally BJP, I asked JD(U) leadership to field me king of experts Seat. But even this was not done. After the assembly elections were over, I was promised a place in the Legislative Council, but the promise was never fulfilled and the JD(U) leadership even refrained from meeting me.
