Patna: The wife of a ward councilor was allegedly killed in a celebratory firing during the marriage ceremony of a relative in the village. Sultanpur Under Danapur police station area West Patna early Tuesday.

Police sources said that at around 3 am, the Danapur police station received information about the firing and injuries in the celebration.
Police sources said that Sunny was on the stage for a garland exchange ritual (jai-mala) when the celebratory firing started.
He told that due to the firing in the celebration, the woman was shot in the head. Police said that he has been admitted to a private hospital Raza Bazaar He was then taken to another private hospital in Patliputra Colony, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Danapur SDPO Syed Imran Masood He said that the police have arrested Pawan Mahto and Sudhir Kumar of Sultanpur, who were seen involved in the firing at the celebration.
He said that both of them are ex-servicemen and they have licensed weapons. The SDPO said that the police have come to know that both are relatives of the councillor.
“Two regular rifles and one regular pistol and several cartridges have been seized from them. These weapons were used in celebratory firing,” Masood, a young IPS officer, said.
He said that both had fired several rounds in the air which is also visible in the videography footage.
“Pawan was accompanied by two more persons and Sudhir engaged in celebration with more regular weapons. They are yet to be traced,” he said, adding that no empty cartridges were found from the spot.
He told that the incident happened at around one o’clock in the night and the woman died during treatment at around seven in the morning.
SHO of Danapur police station Ajit Kumar Saha said that so far no one has come forward to lodge a written complaint or FIR.
“The police is working on its own as of now. Raids are being conducted to arrest two suspects involved in celebratory firing during the wedding ceremony and are still evading arrest.
Saha told that after the incident, the marriage rituals were completed in a hurry. He said the body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
