Bihar: 60 feet iron bridge stolen in Rohtas district by fooling local officials and villagers

New Delhi: According to news agency IANS report, a gang of thieves managed to steal a 60 feet long iron bridge in Rohtas district of Bihar in broad daylight. An official told IANS that the robbery was carried out in three days with the help of unknowingly local officials and villagers.

The thieves posed as officials of the state’s irrigation department and used gas cutters and earthmover machines to demolish the bridge and remove the scrap metal in three days.

The interesting thing is that the robbers actually took the help of the local irrigation department officials and villagers while removing the iron bridge. By the time the authorities learned about the theft, the robber had fled with the “heavy” loot.

According to the report of IANS, the bridge over the Ara canal was constructed in 1972 in Amiyavar village under Nasriganj police station. It was now very old and was declared dangerous. So the local villagers were not using it but were using the adjacent concrete bridge.

After the complaint of theft was registered, the police is investigating the matter by alerting the local scrap dealers.

“We have received complaints from the officials of the irrigation department. Accordingly, we have registered an FIR against unidentified persons. The process of making their sketches to identify the accused is underway. We also alerted the scrap dealers to pass on the information. Any such material is under their knowledge. The bridge was 60 feet long and 12 feet high,” Nasriganj SHO Subhash Kumar told IANS.
