BHUBANESWAR: The state government has decided to assess the learning ability of students after physical classes resume for children of classes VI and VII after a gap of 19 months.
The baseline assessment test for Oriya, English and Mathematics will be conducted from November 22 to 24. Baseline assessment of the student will be done by the subject teachers which will help them to identify the learning level and learning impairment of each child. The notice from the Department of School and Mass Education states that teachers may devise instructional strategies to ensure the learning progress of each child. The question papers in Oriya, English and Mathematics have been prescribed by the Director of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT,
“Unlike other states where remedial classes are being conducted after the reopening of schools, we have decided to take the test first and plan accordingly. For example, a class VI student can go through chapters of class IV and V. will answer questions so that a teacher can assess the standard of the student,” said Tapas Kumar Nayak, Assistant Director, SCERT.
Nayak said that the SCERT suggested the teachers to ask the students to practice the worksheets of the previous classes, so that they can become comfortable with the physical teaching.
