Bhubaneswar AIIMS Introduces Millets for Patients, Students

The initiative was launched on the occasion of ‘Utkal Diwas’ (Odisha Day) and G20 Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) campaign

AIIMS, Bhubaneswar has included millet in the diet of its admitted patients and students to provide healthy and nutritious food to the students and indoor patients. Ashutosh Biswas, executive director of the institute, said the initiative was launched on the occasion of ‘Utkal Diwas’ (Odisha Day) and G20 Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) campaign.

“We are really excited to introduce millet in the diet of our patients and students. We believe it will provide patients with the fiber they need for a quick recovery. We are committed to providing the best care to our patients And this is one of the many steps we are taking in that direction.

He said the students would get rich nutrients and minerals from millet, an ancient food which is locally available, and would take care of their weight problems and immunity.

The institute’s registrar BB Mishra said AIIMS Bhubaneswar has planned a series of events for the month in line with the Prime Minister’s call for ‘Jan Bhagidari’, a strong element in the country’s G20 Presidency.

A meeting was organized at the institute to create awareness about the health benefits of millets and to spread the message among the masses. A booklet on Millets was distributed among the people.

Dietitian Saumya Sucharita Prusty said the initiative is expected to encourage people to include millets in their daily diet and promote consumption of traditional food items, which are both healthy and tasty.
