BJP’s ‘Hindu minority’ bet started from Assam can change the political equation of the country. The central government has said in the Supreme Court that where Hindus are less, they can declare them as a minority. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that who are minority and who are not, it will be decided at the district level.

There will be a direct impact on 102 districts of the country
There are 775 districts in the country. When the census was conducted in 2011, there were 640 districts. If we do district-wise analysis, it is found that in 102 districts of the country, the Hindu population is less than the people of other religions. That is, if the Assam model is implemented in the country, Hindus can be declared a minority in these districts.

Hindu majority in all districts of 15 states and union territories
District wise, Rampur in UP, Kishanganj in Bihar, Mallapuram in Kerala and three districts of West Bengal and 18 districts of Jammu and Kashmir have more Muslim population. According to the Ministry of Minorities, the population of minorities is high in 90 districts, 66 towns and 710 blocks. As per the official definition, there are 6 minorities in the country. Muslims are 14.2%, Christians 2.3%, Sikhs 1.7%, Buddhists 0.7%, Parsis 0.006% and Jains 0.4%.

According to Sanjay Kumar of CSDS, if minorities declared at the national level in a district or state are excluded from the purview of facilities, they will face problems. The situation will be clear only on the basis of what will be the formula.
