Bharat Bandh Live Updates: Opposition to Agneepath Plan
Bharat Bandh: Several organisations, including lakhs of Congress workers, will protest on Monday as they have called for a bandh against the new recruitment policy in the Indian Armed Forces. The ongoing protests over the past few days have caused damage to public properties including railway stations, trains and buses. Addressing the youth of the country on Sunday, the Defense Ministry had elaborated on the policy but denied any rollback of the plan. The Army, Navy and Air Force have drawn up a comprehensive program of enrolment of soldiers under the new policy, saying it is the only way to reduce the age of the three services. On Sunday, Congress MPs and leaders also sat on ‘Satyagraha’ at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in solidarity with the youth opposing the Agneepath scheme. Congress leaders and supporters criticized the BJP-led central government and said that the Agneepath scheme is not beneficial for the youth of the country and also puts national security at risk.
