The two spans where the KR Pura ramp connects to the main lines of the flyover will shortly be demolished by BDA. The new ramp will cost the authority Rs 90 crore to construct.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) plans to remove two loops on the Hebbal Flyover to reduce traffic congestion.

The two loops that currently exist on the Hebbal flyover—one for traffic entering from the KR Puram side and another for traffic entering from Tumkur Road and the Bellary Road service road to reach Mehkri Circle—will be removed to build a new lane that will connect Baptist Hospital to a road that is next to the tree park at the busy intersection.

In addition to several pillars already being placed on the service road, BDA started building a new ramp last year from the Baptist Hospital side. According to experts, the northern side of the junction will eventually require the destruction of two loops as the building moves forward.

The 750-meter additional lane, which is anticipated to facilitate traffic flow from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to Mehkri Circle, is in the path of the linking points of these loops with the main lines of the flyover.

For the construction of the new ramp, the authorities are spending Rs 90 crore. “Without removing two loops, we cannot construct the new ramp. However, considering vehicle density in the area, we must consult traffic police and take a call,” a BDA official said as quoted by the Times of India.

Furthermore, a new lane will merge with the existing one after the rail track for drivers heading towards Mehkri Circle. The official stated that an alternate 150-meter-long loop will be constructed for traffic arriving from the KR Pura side, reports add. “Ramp works will be completed by December,” the official responded when questioned about when the new lane would be finished.

There are reports wherein the ramp’s vehicle movement has already been limited by traffic police, who are only permitting two-wheelers.

To access Hebbal and the Mehkri Circle, other drivers must make a right turn under the flyover and a U-turn before the Kodigehalli signal. For additional projects to improve junction traffic flow, BDA wants to raise Rs 300 crore.
