BENGALURU: To provide transport facility to the areas around narrow roads and metro stations, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation ,BMTC) has decided to deploy 1,000 minibuses with a capacity of 20 seats from next year.
Speaking on the launch of new BMTC BS-VI and electric buses on Monday, the Transport Minister of Karnataka B Sriramulu “These minibuses will decongest the traffic congestion in the city limits,” he said.
BMTC officials said there will be no conductor in the minibuses. “We are working on the modalities now. We are yet to decide whether to charge flat fare in these buses or travel by pass or smart card.
He said that buses 5-6 meters long. be a little bigger than time traveller, “These buses can be operated on congested roads which are 30-40 feet wide. They will have a quick turnaround, so the frequency of the bus will be higher. It is ideal for metro feeder routes,” he said.
He said that each bus would cost Rs 15-20 lakh. “We will need Rs 150-200 crore for 1,000 mini buses. We will also be able to operate these buses on apartment complexes and other narrow interior roads like Chickpet.
Separately, BMTC is inducting 90 non-AC e-buses (9 meters long with 33+1 seats) as metro feeder services to provide first- and last-mile connectivity under the Bengaluru Smart City Fund. will be operated in

Sriramulu said that BMTC will launch an advanced ticketing system with electronic ticketing machines and UPI/wallet/credit card/debit card payments. “The project under the automatic fare collection system will be implemented in six months,” he said.
The minister also said that the Labor Department and BMTC will issue ‘vanita sangtiPass to one lakh women garment workers in the city from January 1. “The cost of the pass will be borne by the garment factory owners (40%), the labor department (40%) and BMTC (20%), he said. ,
“Given the encouraging response to the reduction in fares for Vajra services, BMTC will increase the Vajra fleet from the current 183 buses to 300 from next month. Monthly passes will be issued from January at a reduced rate of Rs 1,500,” said Sriramulu.
Under the Centre’s Nirbhaya scheme, he said, BMTC is installing vehicle-tracking units, CCTV cameras, passenger information systems and panic buttons in 5,000 buses. “We will launch a mobile app by March 2022. These measures will ensure the safety of women. They are funded by the central and state governments in the ratio of 60:40,” the minister said.
