Bengal Shocker: Video Of Police Dragging Rape Victim’s Body Surfaces; BJP Slams Mamata Banerjee

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after a video of a rape victim’s body being ‘dragged’ by the police surfaced online. In the video, police and para force can be seen taking the body away from the angry mob while some can be seen pelting stones at the police. Sharing the video on Twitter, BJP leader Amit Malviya said that ‘such haste is often seen when the aim is to destroy or weaken the evidence and cover up the crime’.

“In this video, the body that the West Bengal police is insensitively dragging is that of a minor rape and murder victim from the Rajbanshi community in Kaliyaganj, Uttar Dinajpur. Such haste is often seen when the aim is to destroy evidence. to eliminate or weaken and cover up the crime…. Shockingly, Mamata Banerjee’s administration did not allow local BJP MLAs Satyendra Nath Ray (from Rajbanshi community) and Budhrai Tudu to meet the victim’s family, but North Dinajpur TMC president Kanaiya Lal Agarwal was allowed to meet him. Whom are they trying to save here?” Malaviya said.

Bengal LOP Shubhendu Adhikari alleges lawlessness

Shubhendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, alleged lawlessness in the state and blamed the state police for the crime. The BJP leader also alleged that the police were busy making security arrangements for Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s proposed visit to the district next month.

“Another rape and murder of a minor girl in WB. The body of a Class X student belonging to the Rajbanshi community of Kaliyaganj in Uttar Dinajpur was found in such condition. Days after the tribal women were punished with an atonement ritual , this happens to a Rajbanshi girl. Sorry the law and order situation in West Bengal is bad as the police are busy making security arrangements for ‘Bhaipo Ke Nabjowar’. Unfortunately the common people, especially women are paying the price The criminals are getting emboldened because of the inaction of the state government,” the official said.

What is the matter?

According to the Bengal Police, a minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered by unknown miscreants in Kaliaganj of North Dinajpur district of the state. On Friday morning, the villagers found the dead body floating in the canal water. The girl had gone missing on Thursday evening. The victim, a resident of Gangua village, had gone missing after her tuition class. Despite extensive searches by the local people and the police, he could not be traced. His relatives had filed a missing report.

When the police went to recover the girl’s body, the local people protested demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, the official said. He said locals blocked roads, burnt tires and allegedly pelted stones at the police. “We had to resort to lathicharge and lob tear gas shells to control the crowd. We are trying to bring the situation under control. Investigation is on,” the officer said. Eventually the body of the girl was recovered and sent for post-mortem, he said. (With PTI inputs)
