Bengal Panchayat poll: BJP appoints 4-member fact finding committee to visit violence hit areas

Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday appointed a 4-member fact-finding committee to visit the violence-affected areas in West Bengal.

According to the saffron party, the committee will visit areas where several people were killed in panchayat poll-related violence.

Former Union Minister and Lok Sabha member Ravi Shankar Prasad was named as the convenor of the committee. Former Mumbai commissioner and MP Satyapal Singh, MP Rajdeep Singh and Rekha Verma are the other members of the 4-member fact-finding committee.

At least 20 people were killed and many injured in the violence during the panchayat elections in the state. Several incidents of booth capturing and alleged malpractices in the polling process have also come to the fore.

Meanwhile, re-polling is underway in over 600 booths in 19 districts.
