Beneficiaries wait in long queues when it resumes after 48 hours. Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: Huge rush of eligible recipients to get jobs at COVID vaccination sites was witnessed in city and rural areas on Thursday. The vaccination exercise was resumed at 44 vaccination sites after a gap of 48 hours and recipients were seen standing in long queues waiting for their turn. On Thursday, 8,683 doses were given, including 4,144 first doses and 4,539 second doses of the vaccine.
Ironically, the lack of vaccines has already led to the suspension of the cluster scheme in Sangam city, which was supposed to start from Thursday. Health department officials, however, said that on Thursday, the vaccination drive was carried out at all the 24 vaccination sites in the city and 20 community health centers (CHCs) in rural areas.
District Immunization Officer (DIO) and Additional Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), Dr Tirath Lal told TOI that the vaccination process was resumed after the stock was received from the state capital. He said jabs were given to eligible recipients on 44 sites on Thursday.
However, Dr Lal said that the cluster scheme would be started in the district once there is sufficient stock and availability of vaccines.
On Thursday, the beneficiaries who reached the vaccination centers located in rural and semi-urban had to wait for hours to get the job.
Meanwhile, a senior health official said, there are plans to start vaccination drives in 80 wards of the city after the first week of July as per the availability of vaccines. He further said that vaccination under the cluster scheme would be done on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, while routine vaccination would take place on Wednesday and Saturday.
The official also informed that all the 80 wards of the city have been divided into 16 groups and 10 teams will cover at least five wards in a day. The cluster plan for rural areas will be finalized soon.
