Ben Stokes rested from England’s T20I series, The Hundred and Vitality IT20 series against South Africa

Star all-rounder Ben Stokes will miss England’s T20I series against South Africa, Vitality IT20 series and The Hundred to manage his workload and fitness, England and Wales Cricket The Board (ECB) confirmed this on Friday.

The ECB confirmed the news while announcing England’s men’s squads for the upcoming three ODIs and three T20 Internationals against South Africa, starting next week.

England Test captain misses out on T20I series against Stokes India To rest after captaining England to four consecutive Test victories against New Zealand and India at the start of the summer. With three more, starting against South Africa in mid-August, Stokes has been rested, which also means missing out on the second edition of the Hundred for Northern Superchargers.

He played only two games of The Hundred for the Northern Superchargers’ inaugural season.

“In order to manage the workload and fitness of England men’s Test captain Ben Stokes, he will not be involved in the Vitality IT20 series and The Hundred, which begin next month,” the ECB said in a statement.

Yorkshire spinner Adil Rashid has returned to both the teams after being ruled out of the series against India, which was allowed by the ECB to perform the Haj pilgrimage to Mecca. He has replaced Matt Parkinson in both teams. On the other hand, Jonny Bairstow, who was out of the T20 series with India, has also returned to the T20 team.

Meanwhile, Durham pacer Matthew Potts has been included in the ODI squad for the first time since England’s impressive start in four Tests earlier this summer with 18 wickets at 26.72.

South Africa’s tour of England will begin on July 19 with a three-match ODI series. After that there will be three T20 Internationals followed by the same number of Tests till 12 September.
