Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic and French Open semifinalist Maria Sakkari are back in the fourth round at Flushing Meadows after straight sets victories.

11th seed Bencic defeated number 23 Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-4 in a rematch of the Summer Games.

Bencic was a semifinalist for her best Grand Slam performance at the 2019 US Open.

17th-seeded Sakkari beat two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova 6-4, 6-3 to register her eighth win this season against an opponent in the top 20.

Sakkari hit nine aces, never broke and made it to the second week of the US Open for the second year in a row.

Kvitova finished 34-16 with more than double unforced errors.

Bianca Andreescu is now 10-0 on her US Open career and is back in the fourth round of the tournament she won in 2019.

The sixth-seeded Canadian had some trouble moving ahead with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Belgium’s 104th-ranked Grete Meinen. Minan entered the field as the “lucky loser” – someone who lost in qualifying but went into the main draw when another player withdrew.

Minan has never beaten a top-10 player and has never had much of a chance. It hardly took over an hour as Andreescu gave away 21 winners and made only 11 unforced errors, all while he saved four break points.

Andreescu defeated Serena Williams two years ago at the age of 19 on her US Open debut in the final in New York. Andreescu missed a trip to Flushing Meadows last year with a series of injuries that disrupted his still-young career.
