Behavior, Performance Of Erring Cops Under Scanner | Vadodara News – Times of India

Vadodara: Cops posted across police stations and in various departments are on their best behavior these days, thanks to the major disciplinary action that is being initiated against erring policemen over the past few weeks. Even their behavior as well as performance is being analyzed minutely by senior cops every month.
City police commissioner Shamsher Singh said that the crackdown on the cops with deviant behavior will continue in the coming months. “I had observed that the behavior of some policemen was not good towards the public and some were even conniving with the anti-social elements. The number of complaints had been rising. So, we decided to crack the whip,” Singh told TOI.
Last year, all cops posted in the same police station department for more than five years were shifted out. Two weeks ago, Singh ordered that the entire detection squad (D-staff) be disbanded after he got many complaints against the squads. It was for the first time in decades that the D-staff that focusses in crime detection completely dissolved.
On February 18, all the 87 cops posted in karelibaug police station were transferred en masse. The move came after an attempted attack on deputy mayor and VMC standing committee chairman by some miscreants in the jurisdiction of Karelibaug police station. Two days ago, five policemen in Raopura police station were suspended after an inquiry showed they didn’t act against a bootlegger.
“We are not just analysing smallest complaint against the policemen. Our efforts are also to improve their behavior in the public. The DCPs are giving behavioral training to the newly recruited lok rakshak dal ,LRD) and policemen posted in police control vans. Their behavior and duty should be public centric,” Singh added. As many as 40 cops are already under suspension over dereliction of duty or behavioral issues.
Singh said that even after training if their behavior doesn’t improve, they will be sacked from the police department.
