Jaipur: Congress leader and Rajasthan in-charge Ajay Maken on Wednesday began a two-day brainstorming exercise in which he would personally meet the party. As the AICC General Secretary started the exercise at the Vidhan Sabha building here, Leader of Opposition Gulabchand Kataria Hitting out at the ruling party, he said the need for the Congress leadership to hold face-to-face discussions with the MLAs makes it clear that the state government has not been able to function well.
Maken will discuss with the MLAs the reshuffle exercise, political appointments and the names of district and block presidents of the party.
Sources said the MLAs are meeting Maken personally under the district-wise slot allotted to him. The brainstorming session started with the MLAs of Jaipur.
Adarsh ​​Nagar MLA (Jaipur) Rafiq Khan told reporters after the meeting, “Various points were discussed including the achievements of the government and what else can be done to enhance its performance.”
He said that the implementation of Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme was also discussed.
Party sources said that on the first day on Wednesday, MLAs of Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Alwar, Baran, Dausa, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur, Bundi, Kota and Dholpur are going to meet Maken.
The MLAs of the rest of the district will meet him on Thursday.
Civil Lines MLA and Transport Minister Pratap Singh Khachariawas said that Congress is a democratic party and its high command listens to all its members.
“Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot told us that he is our guardian. Maken is also holding meetings as a guardian,” he said, adding that there is no internal dispute in your party and there were discussions on welfare schemes and their implementation. .
On the cabinet reshuffle, he said it was the prerogative of the chief minister and the final decision was left to the party high command.
Sachin Pilot loyalist and Chaksu MLA Vedprakash Solanki said he has apprised Maken of all the issues and is satisfied that the party high command is now listening to all the MLAs.
He said, “I gave my suggestions and I told them whatever I had to say. I am satisfied that now our point of view is being communicated directly to the party high command. Now, the high command is not only listing us, but all the MLAs. Listening to it,” Solanki said.
Congress came to power in December 2018 and has completed half its term.
leader of Opposition Kataria He said the government may not work well if “the ruling party has such a level of contention that a face-to-face meeting with MLAs is required”.
“Such governments are not able to function properly and cannot do good for the people,” he said.
He also questioned the government’s decision to interact with the MLAs in the assembly building.
“The Congress party should have organized this exercise elsewhere to maintain the sanctity of the assembly,” he said.
The Congress has 106 MLAs in the House of 200 and most of the 13 independents support it.
Maken and AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal had a meeting with Chief Minister Gehlot on Saturday night regarding the cabinet reshuffle.
On Sunday, Maken had said that there was no dispute over the cabinet reshuffle in the state and the decision in this regard was left to the party high command.
The party’s central leadership would take a final call on the cabinet reshuffle, he had said, adding that he would take feedback from the legislators on all issues and give a report to the party high command.
There may be a change in the next few days. Apart from the reshuffle in the cabinet, political appointments in various boards and corporations and appointments of district and block presidents of the party will also happen soon.
Pilot and several other MLAs had openly revolted against Gehlot last June. After a month-long crisis, top Congress leaders had formed a committee to look into the issues raised by Pilot, who alleged that his camp was being sidelined by the Gehlot government.
Earlier this week, Pilot told reporters that he was in touch with the Congress high command to resolve the issues raised by him and that “AICC is taking steps for the betterment of the government and the party organisation”.
