BCCI Working Group member for compensation for all age groups, Sheldon Jackson set for Saurashtra return

Saurashtra’s Jaydev Shah, who is part of the BCCI’s newly formed working group for domestic cricket, believes that cricketers of all age groups should be compensated for the loss of games in the previous season and not just Ranji players. .

Shah, the former Saurashtra captain, said how the compensation to the cricketers and the quantum of payment will be decided by the working group after consultations with BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Sourav Ganguly.

“The working group has been constituted and we will work under the guidance of Jai Bhai (BCCI secretary). No time frame has been fixed yet, but I think compensation, whatever the amount, should be given to cricketers of all age groups.

The other members of the panel include former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin, Karnataka’s Santosh Menon, Assam’s Devajit Saikia, CAB’s Avishek Dalmiya, Uttar Pradesh’s Yudhvir Singh and Delhi’s Rohan Jaitely.

A domestic player earns Rs 15-16 lakh per season, but this was not the case last season as the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 87 years was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the senior level, only T20 and 50 over competition were held.

Jaydev also revealed that veteran batsman Sheldon Jackson is all set to return to Saurashtra after spending a season with Puducherry.

Jackson, who is part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad this IPL season, moved to Puducherry as an outsider after guiding Saurashtra to their maiden Ranji Trophy in March 2020.

“He has got NOC from Puducherry and we are happy that he is back. He is a senior and an important player for us.”

The domestic season of the 2021–2022 season begins with the women’s one-day competition in September–October, while the men begin the year with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in October–November.

The premier event, the Ranji Trophy, will be held from November 16 to February 19.
