BCCI wants to appoint VVS Laxman as NCA director: Report

After the appointment of Rahul Dravid as the head coach of India, questions have been raised on the next director of the national team. Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The former India captain has done a commendable job at the NCA and now Indian cricket wants someone of his stature to handle it.

According to the report of news agency ANI, former India batsman VVS Laxman is the frontrunner to take up the position. It is also learned that not only BCCI President Sourav Ganguly but Secretary Jay Shah and other senior officials want the former cricketer to take up the role of NCA.

“Both Sourav and Jai would love to see Laxman playing the role of NCA. But yes, the final decision obviously rests with the former Indian cricketer as he also has a young family. He is undoubtedly the front-runner for the role and let’s not forget how he is now known to share a special bond with coach Dravid. It would be the perfect combination for both of them to work together towards taking Indian cricket forward. There is nothing like having former cricketers on board to help produce the next generation of stars,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by ANI.

David will begin his stint as India’s head coach with the upcoming home series against New Zealand which begins on November 17. It will be interesting to see if Laxman agrees to join hands with him and rekindle the partnership that won India many Test matches.

Commenting on his appointment as the head coach, Dravid has already mentioned how he wants to build on the foundation laid by current coach Ravi Shastri.

“It is an absolute honor to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and I am really looking forward to the role. The team has done extremely well under Shastri’s leadership and I look forward to working with the team to take this forward. Having worked closely with most of the boys in the NCA, U19 and India A setups, I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day. There are some major multi-team events in the next two years, and I look forward to working with the players and support staff to achieve their potential,” he said.
