BCCI to request warm-up matches for India ahead of England Test series

Taking lessons from India’s final defeat of the ICC World Test Championship, BCCI ready to request England and Wales Cricket The Board (ECB) will arrange some practice games for the touring party before starting their five-match series in August. India’s cricketers last played a Test in March this year before facing New Zealand in the WTC final earlier this month, a contest they lost by eight wickets.

New Zealand, on the other hand, looked well prepared to face England in the two-match Test series. Troubled by the defeat and with a long hiatus before the Test series against England begins, the BCCI wants two practice matches for Virat Kohli’s men.

“Jay (Shah) will talk to the ECB and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tom Harrison to make arrangements for the two warm-up matches ahead of the five-Test series,” BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said. Indian Express.

“The secretary felt that the BCCI should request the ECB to give at least two practice matches so that the players can get some good match practice before the series starts,” he added.

The Indian players reportedly left for London on Thursday from where they will be dispersed. The players have been given a 20-day break before assembling on July 14.

Players are expected to travel to various destinations within the UK and spectators should be allowed, with some keen to attend Wimbledon as well. After gathering in London, the team will leave for Nottingham where the first Test is to be played from 4 August.

The WTC final was interrupted by rain but the reserve day enabled the competition to end with a champion when New Zealand easily chased down a target of 139 to become the inaugural winners.
