The victorious India Under-19 team will be felicitated by the BCCI in Ahmedabad on their arrival in India.

The BCCI on Sunday announced a cash reward of Rs 40 lakh each for the team members and Rs 25 lakh for the support staff.

Following their famous victory over England on Saturday, the Indian contingent met the Indian High Commissioner in Guyana.

With less time to celebrate the success in the Caribbean, the squad will take a long flight back home with connecting flights from Amsterdam and Bangalore before landing in Ahmedabad on Sunday evening.

The senior Indian team is also currently playing three ODIs against West Indies in Ahmedabad. With the bubble in the team, it is not yet known whether the Under-19 boys will get a chance to interact with their superiors.

“It has been a busy schedule for the boys who have little time to rest. A BCCI official said, he will get some rest after landing in India.

Fresh from their victory in the final, the boys headed to Guyana from Antigua and were felicitated by Indian High Commissioner KJ Srinivas, who is an ardent cricket fan.

The players were weary but enjoyed taking pictures with West Indies great Sir Curtley Ambrose, who was present at the ceremony.

Delhi’s Yash Dhul captained the Indian team in the Caribbean, while Hrishikesh Kanitkar led the support staff.

National Cricket Academy chief VVS Laxman was also in the Caribbean and played a big role in taking care of the team in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, which infected five players, including Dhul and his deputy Sheikh Rashid.

It was a record-expanding fifth title for India that have made it to the finals of the last four editions.
