Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been given a break from all forms of cricket till April 30 to deal with “mental stress” and “fatigue”, which has ruled him out of the upcoming South Africa series which runs till April 8. Is.
A break of almost two months will mean that Shakib will also miss the Dhaka Premier League, where he was expected to play for Mohammedan Sporting.
Following the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s decision, the local club is now considering appealing to the BCB.
The 34-year-old, who was not picked by any IPL franchise, was initially named in the ODI and Test squads for the tour of South Africa.
But following his remarks that he felt like a “traveller” in the team after Bangladesh’s recent series against Afghanistan, where he scored 74 runs and took seven wickets in three ODIs and two T20Is, the country’s cricket board Decided to give them a lot- needed breaks.
“He is mentally tense and exhausted. He told me at this point that he is not enjoying any kind of cricket.
“He always said one thing that he is not enjoying, unfit and not ready. Since he is ‘mentally exhausted and physically stressed’, after discussions with the CEO and Chairman, we have decided to give him rest from all forms of cricket till April 30.”
“Shakib is an all-rounder, an important player for us. We have the World Cup coming up, we want him for another big series and if a player wants to play and doesn’t want to enjoy, we want to give him complete rest and spend time with his family. “
Considering club’s appeal on Shakib’s break
Upset with Vikas, his local franchise Mohammedan Sporting will appeal for a waiver on Shakib’s break as he is a key force in their attack in the DPL.
“The decision given by the board is very disappointing for us as Shakib has not even once told that he has any problem playing domestic cricket,” Masood uz Zaman, chairman of cricket committee of Mohammedan SC, told the Daily Star.
“We are sitting with the cricket committee tomorrow (Thursday) and we will try to appeal (regarding Shakib). We don’t know what will happen but we will try. If we appeal, it should happen tomorrow.”
On Sunday, Shakib created a storm saying that he is feeling stressed and not physically and mentally fit to play the South Africa series as BCB president Nazmul Hasan questioned his commitment.
“I think it is logical to think that if he had been in poor physical and mental condition, he would not have given his name in the IPL… but he went ahead with it. So does this mean that if he had got his IPL contract, he would have said the same thing?” questioned Hasan.
Shakib withdrew from the Test series in New Zealand last month and since 2017 the leading all-rounder has played 15 out of 33 Tests played by Bangladesh.
