Bank Holidays in August: Banks will remain closed for 7 days in the rest of the month, full list

NS reserve Bank of India (RBI) earlier. issued a list of holidays for banks in August. According to rbi list of bank holidaysA total of 8 days leave was given to lenders across the country. These holidays were based on various state-wise celebrations, religious events and festivals. In addition, the month of August also had weekends to consider. There were 7 weekend holidays in total this month. All this added up to give a total of 15 days of leave to the banks. As the month progressed, many of the holidays on the list have come and gone. With only a few days before the end of this month, there are only seven holidays left for the banks to celebrate this month.

The remaining holidays from RBI’s list for this month fall under the classification of ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act’. Other classifications for RBI listing are ‘Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday’ and ‘Banks’ Closing of Accounts’. It should be noted that RBI has not indicated that these other two classifications apply to the current list for the month of August.

Out of total 7 holidays, only four of them are actually from RBI Bank Holidays list, other three are weekend holidays – two Sundays on 22nd August and 29th August respectively as well as the fourth Saturday of the month in August 28. It is only Skips RBI’s list of mandatory holidays. The list includes Saturday, which is Thiruvonam and is celebrated in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. Hence, the residents of these areas need to plan their banking business going forward.

For this week, there are three days which are holidays one after the other. This includes Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Sunday, which is 22 August, will be a standard holiday for all banks across India, while Monday, 23 August, is Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti, which is again celebrated in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.

These holidays are by no means the same. They can be celebrated in more than one state or city at a time, but they do not apply to the whole of India on any given day. The only common holidays are weekends such as Sundays as well as the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. However, there were two holidays that were not listed in the RBI list, which were allotted for a large number of places. One of these days has passed since it happened on August 19th. The second holiday in this row is going to be on August 30. It will be Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8) / Krishna Jayanti and this holiday is celebrated in cities. Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar and Gangtok.

The last day of the month is also the last holiday on the list, which is Sri Krishna Ashtami and is celebrated in Hyderabad. Simultaneously, citizens of these cities are advised to plan their next business trip to the banks carefully.
