Bank Holiday in September: Bank Holiday for 12 days in this month, know the dates

NS reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated a total of seven Bank holiday in the month of September. Going forward this calendar month, bank customers should be careful with these dates and plan their next trip Bank Therefore. As per RBI’s official list of bank holidays, the seven compulsory holidays are state-wise holidays, religious holidays or festival celebrations spread across the month. In addition to those seven, there are also six weekend leaves that come into effect in September. However, one of these holidays, the other a Saturday, will be on the same date as one of the official holidays. This overlap brings the final count of bank holidays of 12 days in this month.

These bank holidays are classified under three official brackets allotted by RBI. These brackets are ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act’, ‘Holidays and Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act’ and ‘Banks’ Closing of Accounts’. The holidays of this month come under the classification of ‘Leave under Negotiable Instruments Act’.

Holidays, though they may seem like one after another, are actually well spaced because they only happen in particular states. It should also be noted that most of the official holidays from the list have only one or two states in which they are applicable as per RBI notification. There is no form of uniformity in any of the holidays in the list and will not be applicable to all the states at the same time. That said, there is one big holiday on RBI’s list. This holiday is Ganesh Chaturthi/Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Vinayaka Chaturthi/Varasiddhi Vinayak Vrat. It will be celebrated on 10th September in total 9 cities of different states – Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji.

The next day is the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi, which is applicable only for banks in Panaji. However, it is also the date that overlaps with the second Saturday of the month, which is a weekend, which means that all banks across India will be closed on that day. The official list of RBI holidays does not begin with the holiday date of Srimanta Sankardev till September 8, 2021, which is scheduled to be held in Guwahati only. The full list of holidays, including weekends, will begin on September 5, as it is the first Sunday of the month. All weekends are nationwide holidays for lenders in India, so you need to plan your banking business for the remaining part of the month.

The list of holidays is expiring on September 21 as per the list of official holidays authorized by RBI. This last holiday will be Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day, which is a holiday for banks in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. However, for banks outside the list issued by RBI, the last day of the holiday ends on a weekend. The last day will be Sunday, which will be on 26 September.
