Bank holiday in October: Bank check list will be closed for 21 days next month

according to the list of Bank holiday quoted by reserve Bank of India (RBI) lenders can expect few days in this upcoming festive season. Bank holidays are a combination of festival celebrations, religious holidays and state-wise holidays, for a total of 14 days in October. However, when you consider the weekends for which banks will also be closed, another seven days are added to the list, which brings the number up to 21 days. While this is a large part of the month in terms of days, it is not a major cause for concern as these holidays are spread out. They are spread out in the sense that they only occur for certain dates, except for a few days. The remaining holidays do not apply equally for the most part. So, how many holidays your local lender will see depends on your geography.

According to the official classification reserve Bank of India On the website, the list of holidays mandated by RBI has been grouped under categories of ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act’, ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays’ and ‘Closing of Banks’ accounts’. It should be noted that the holidays for the month of October for the most part fall under the bracket of ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act’, wherein only the first day of the month falls under the bracket of ‘closure of accounts of banks’, but This is also applicable only for banks located in Gangtok.

Having said that, the first official holiday that falls within the purview of ‘holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act’ is on 2nd October, and it is Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. This is one of the biggest bank holidays of the month and will be applicable to all lenders under the purview of RBI in all the states and cities listed on the RBI website. Another widespread holiday is Durga Puja/Dussehra/Dussehra (Vijaya Dashami), which takes place on 15 October. This will be applicable to lenders in all states and cities except Imphal and Shimla.
