Pakistan aims to keep pace with its strong t20 world cup Captain Babar Azam on Thursday said Bangladesh is showing up with a largely unchanged squad for this week’s tour.

Babar’s team achieved five consecutive victories in the Super-12 stage of the Dubai tournament and suffered a five-wicket loss to eventual winners Australia in the semi-finals.

Pakistan have fielded the same line-up in all six of their World Cup matches and have retained almost the same team for the Bangladesh series, which begins with Friday’s Twenty20 performance in Dhaka.

“Pace always matters in cricket and we would like to maintain that pace,” Babar told reporters before the game.

Mohammad Hafeez is the only player who did not fly to Bangladesh after being dropped from the team, with Iftikhar Ahmed in his place.

Bangladesh are missing a number of senior players who were ruled out due to injury or were rested after a disastrous World Cup campaign where they failed to win a single Super-12 match.

Captain Mahmudullah Riyadh said his side wants to start afresh and leave the Dubai defeat behind.

“Whatever happened happened. If we think about it too much it will affect us negatively. We want to think positively,” he said.

The second and third T20 Internationals will be held in Dhaka on November 20 and 22.

Both are day-night games, with fans returning to the stands in Bangladesh for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic closed stadiums in March 2020.

Pakistan will also play two Test matches during their tour.
