Mahedi Hasan dismissed debutant Rachin Ravindra in the first over and was dismissed for a golden duck after being bowled by the off-spinner. Shakib took five wickets from Will Young and left-arm spinner Nasum with two wickets in an over, including Colin de Grandhomme, to reduce New Zealand to 9-4.

Latham and Nicholls put on a 34-run stand for the fifth wicket but Saifuddin broke the stand with the captain’s wicket and shattered New Zealand even more. Debutant Cole McConchie was dismissed for naught and Saifuddin sent Nichols back as New Zealand’s batting fell like a deck of cards.
