Ban on hijab is a violation of women’s rights, says Dewan of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti | Jaipur News – Times of India

AJMER: Dewan Syed Zainul Abedin Ali Khan of the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti on Monday commented on the controversial Karnataka hijab row.
He said that wearing a hijab is a constitutional and religious right of Muslim women and stopping this is a violation of that right. He added that for dealing with any type of hate speech, there is a need to amend the Indian Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure.
Releasing a press note, Khan stated that on the 810th annual Urs, a meeting of religious leaders from different dargahs was conducted here. Addressing the meeting, the dewan said that there should be no ban on wearing a hijab as all students have the independence to wear their religious symbols. He added that banning hijab is not only challenging the constitutional rights but also preparing a communal atmosphere.
He added that this incident is not only encouraging communal violence in India but also globally. To stop such incidents, it is important that everyone should come together and perform their duties.
“We have to fight communal power with unity and goodwill,” added the dewan.
On hate speech, the dewan said that there is punishment against inflammatory and divisive speeches. He appealed to political parties and their leaders to not use politics to divide people. “We have to understand that development and success cannot be achieved through weapons and terrorism, but with hard work and dedication,” he said.
“The onus is on dargahs to spread brotherhood through communal harmony. It is important that youths should be stopped from embracing extremism and terrorism, instead they should look towards education,” he added.
