In its election manifesto, some of the top promises made by the Congress are allowances for unemployed youth, free travel for women, and pension under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for governments.

After the Congress released its election manifesto for the Karnataka elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party condemned a promise that included banning the Bajrang Dal, and said it was in line with the election placards issued by the Popular Front of India (PFI). Looks like a list.

However, the Congress manifesto also proposes to ban PFI, an already banned organization.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “PFI is already banned. Siddaramaiah government took back PFI cases so they are saying that they will ban Bajrang Dal to please Muslims. Congress is saying that PFI cannot say that we will take revenge. Congress manifesto resembles manifesto of PFI and radical Muslim organizations.

Union minister Shobha Karandlaje also hit out at the Congress for its promise to ban Bajrang Dal in the manifesto. Pressure from Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, Congress is weighing PFI and Bajrang Dal on the same scales, we will not tolerate this.

“We will not allow Karnataka to become another Malappuram, where conversions take place, where Hindus have no place to live, where anti-national activities take place, we will not allow such a situation to arise in Karnataka. We have understood what they are planning to do when they come to power. I am also a member of Bajrang Dal, arrest me. BJP will stand with Bajrang Dal.”

In its election manifesto, some of the top promises made by the Congress are allowances for unemployed youth, free travel for women and pension under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for the government.

The Congress also promised to ban organizations like Bajrang Dal and repeal all “unjust, anti-people laws” passed by the BJP government within a year if voted to power.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar, Leader of the Assembly Opposition Siddaramaiah, Leader of the Legislative Council Opposition BK Hariprasad and the Manifesto Committee President of G. Parameshwara, along with others, was part of the launch of the manifesto at the Shangharila Hotel in Bangalore.
