Ban extended, no political rallies till Jan 22: Election Commission

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Election Commission (EC) had banned all physical political rallies and campaigns for the upcoming assembly elections in five states till January 15.

The Election Commission said that this ban has now been extended till January 22 and till then it will be revoked only if the situation improves.

All political parties are responsible for ensuring enforcement of all COVID protocols in gatherings. No gathering can hold more than 300 people or more than 50% of the meeting hall’s capacity.

The ban applies to all political rallies, road shows, political events, party meetings or any gathering.

The decision to extend the ban was announced after the Election Commission held several meetings with the Union Health Secretaries and Chief Health Secretaries and Chief Electoral Officers of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
