Babbar Movie Review: The film is more on emotion than action

Story: ‘Babbar’ is a story of power, family, love, friendship and emotions. In the film, we see Amrit Maan and Amar Hundal leaving behind their dark lives, gangsterism for their family. However, the reason that drove them away from the darkness of the world eventually led them back to the same pit hole.

Review: From the word Go, ‘Babbar’ seems to be a story revolving around the character of Amrit Maan. However, after watching the film, we can say without any doubt that this is not a single actor’s film; Rather, a cinematic piece in which every character is a hero. Also, the teaser and trailer of the film gave us an impression that the film is nothing more than an intense action drama, but interestingly, it has more than what it gets.

The story of the film revolves around gangsters and their families. It shows two major classes of the dark world, one consisting of those in power, and the other being reformed mobsters who prefer to remain inactive until they are suppressed. Every character in the film is related to each other, which we get as the story unfolds gradually.

Now coming to the story written by Amar Hundal, it is a tightly packed plot, with some unexpected twists and turns. It keeps you glued to your seats throughout the show. However, there are some sections where reasoning is tested. For example, Amar Hundal who plays Gama in the film is severely slit by his enemies, suffers from severe blood loss yet manages to survive. Still, scenes like these can be counted on the fingers, so no wrong, no harm.

Another interesting part of the story is showing young children as the infamous crooks. Now normally we applaud the child actors for bringing some innocence to the screen, but in ‘Babbar’ the child actors present themselves as the real game-changers. Amar has tried to strike a perfect balance between her cuteness and her notorious side.

Moreover, it is not just the child actors but every other actor in the film has done a commendable job. From Yograj Singh posing as Babbar – from the underworld’s most powerful man to Raghveer Boli as Cheeka, Amrit Maan as Zorawar, an innocent young boy in love, a reformed criminal, every actor hit the table. Brought entertainment in sufficient quantity.

We can’t imagine anyone else playing the character of ‘Babbar’ other than Yograj Singh. Although he probably has the shortest screen time, he owned a 70mm for that limited period of time. Similarly, Amrit Maan has shown that he has so much potential as an actor that every gesture and dialogue of his reaches the heart. Then director Amar Hundal himself and other stars like Raghveer Boli, Victor John, Pradeep Cheema also did full justice to their characters.

Now talking about the action of the film, the scene is well choreographed. There hasn’t been much bloodshed, but the shots are powerful enough to leave an impact.

Lastly, let’s talk about the things that didn’t work out for us in the film. Music plays an important role in Punjabi movies, but he couldn’t do magic in this film. Also, we understand that had the makers wanted to leave the film on a cliffhanger, the climax could have been better in terms of story. There was a lot of chaos in the end, which could have been justified by the better climax writing.
