Ayodhya: UP revenue department to probe report of ‘land deals’ by kin of BJP leaders, government officials

New Delhi: The revenue department of the Uttar Pradesh government will probe reports of alleged purchase of land by government officials and relatives of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders near the upcoming Ram temple in Ayodhya, news agency PTI reported.

In a special report published on Wednesday, The Indian Express had claimed that the relatives of MLAs, mayors, commissioners, SDMs and DIGs had bought land in Ayodhya after the Supreme Court announced its verdict on the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, which approved had given way to build ram temple

Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal said, “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the Revenue Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.”

Meanwhile, news reports about alleged land deals drew criticism from the opposition for the BJP government in UP and at the Centre. Sharing a screenshot of the report, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted a tweet in Hindi which said: “Hindu walks on the path of truth. Hindutva is looted under the guise of religion.”

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue in Parliament on Wednesday, while Congress chief spokesperson and general secretary Ramdeep Surjewala called it a “land scam” and said there was “open loot of land inside Ayodhya city” by people. Was. associated with the BJP.”
