Aviation Minister Scindia holds meeting with senior officials on security issues

Amid rising aviation incidents and technical glitches involving Indian carriers, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia held a meeting on safety issues with senior officials of his ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulator. During the meeting, the minister took a detailed report of these incidents from the officials in the last one month and told them that the safety of the passengers should not be compromised. The meeting is taking place at a time when several flights have made emergency landings for various reasons. On Sunday, IndiGo’s Sharjah-Hyderabad flight was diverted to Karachi as a precautionary measure after pilots noticed an engine failure.

On Saturday night, the Calicut-Dubai flight of Air India Express was diverted for Muscat after a burning smell in the air between the cabins. A day ago a live bird was found in the cockpit of Air India Express’s Bahrain-Kochi flight.

SpiceJet is currently under regulatory scrutiny. The DGCA had on July 6 issued a show-cause notice to SpiceJet after at least eight incidents of technical snag in its aircraft since June 19.

DGCA is currently investigating all these incidents.
