Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo claims killing Steve Rogers in the Infinity Saga conclusion would have been ‘quite obvious’.
Avengers: Endgame was the biggest film of 2019 and was the last film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to feature Iron Man. The sequel to Avengers: Infinity War featured superheroes who survived Thanos’ snap, trying to undo the killings of half a human life. While the biggest ensemble cast won out in their mission to do so, fans lost some of their favorite characters. Two of the biggest incidents in the film that broke fans’ hearts were the deaths of Black Widow and Iron Man.
The death of two Avengers in one film can be disastrous for the fans. But Joe Russo recently opened up about why Iron Man had to die in the end instead of Captain America.
ComicBookReader reports that while talking about it at a panel at the St. Andrews Film Festival, Joe Russo said he discussed which superhero should die in the end.
“If you think of Captain America as a character, you’re like ‘Well, Captain America dying is pretty obvious,’ right? [Self-sacrifice] That is something he will do on character basis,” he said. “You know, this is a guy who offered to be a guinea pig in a science experiment to be able to fight the Nazis in a war. He’s a hero on the inside. Like, there’s not a lot of complexity. It’s emotionally It can be impressive because you like him. You know, he’s a very charming character, but it’s not necessarily the most compelling arc.”
There has always been a tussle between Captain America and Iron Man for the captaincy of the Avengers. Although Tony Stark always had an ego, Captain America usually led the group and planned the heroic expulsion of the villains and their groups. Although fans have always considered Iron Man to be the most iconic Avenger. That is for obvious reasons. The first is the charisma that Robert Downey Jr. displayed on the big screen when he played Iron Man, and the second is that Iron Man laid the foundation for the MCU.
