Australian spin legend Shane Warne’s body reaches Melbourne – watch

Australia’s spin legend Shane Warne’s body arrived in a private jet from Melbourne, Thailand on Thursday; Nearly a week after his shocking death in a hotel due to a suspected heart attack.

According to new.com.au, Warne’s body was taken to Australia in a coffin wrapped in the country’s flag. The plane carrying it landed at around 8:30 pm local time. The former cricket great’s last rites are scheduled to take place on March 30 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

“A private jet carrying the body of the Australian cricket legend landed at Melbourne’s Essendon Fields Airport at around 8.30 pm on Thursday. The charter flight was moved to a private hangar,” the report said.

It added, “Fans and friends, including Warne’s personal assistant Helen Nolan, were at the airport to welcome the private plane.”

Warne, credited for reviving the art of leg spin bowling with 708 wickets in 145 Tests in a illustrious 15-year career, died on March 4 in Koh Samui, Thailand at the age of 52. Shock wave in the cricket fraternity.

After his demise, Warne’s body was taken to the mainland city of Surat Thani and then to the capital Bangkok.

An autopsy confirmed that he died of natural causes after suffering a suspected heart attack and that no foul play was involved.

His family will conduct a private funeral before the public service, which is expected to be attended by over one lakh people.
