Two in-form teams will clash against each other to add important points to advance in the race for the semi-finals. Australia registered an easy win over South Africa in their previous match thanks to their bowling attack. Whereas against Bangladesh the Sri Lankan batsmen scored two important points.
Both the teams have a rich history of playing against each other in ICC events, but over the years, Sri Lanka’s cricketing standards have declined a bit after the retirement of their legendary players. However, in the ongoing T20 WC, Sri Lankan players have played quality cricket and impressed many.
On the other hand, some senior Australian players including David Warner, Aaron Finch and Mitchell Stack are struggling with form. Despite this, Australia will go into the match as the favorites but Sri Lanka is also expected to play a poor game for them.
In the warm-up matches, Warner scored 0 and 1, while Finch scored 24 and 8 while returning from knee surgery. In Australia’s first match against South Africa in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Finch was dismissed for a duck while Warner hit three fours before falling for 14.
“I don’t see any lack of form at all. They are excellent players. He lacks runs. To be honest, people who have been world class players for a long time in this format are never out of form. They are short of runs at the moment. We support him wholeheartedly,” Wade said in a pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
