Melbourne Temple Attack: The BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Melbourne, Australia was attacked on Thursday (January 12) by unknown miscreants. Australian media reports alleged that the attack on the temple located in Mill Park, a northern suburb of Melbourne, was carried out by Khalistan sympathisers.

As per reports, the walls of the temple were defaced with anti-India graffiti. ‘Hindustan Murdabad’ was written in black on the walls of the famous temple.

The temple management issued a statement condemning the incident and appealed for peace.

“We are deeply saddened by the anti-India graffiti by anti-social elements on the entrance of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Mill Park, Melbourne, Australia. The BAPS Temple in Mill Park, like all BAPS temples around the world, is a residence. Peace , harmony, equality, selfless service and universal Hindu values,” the statement said.

“At this time, His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, has prayed for peace and unity and appealed to all devotees and well-wishers to maintain peace.”

This is not the first time that BAPS Swaminarayan Temple has been targeted in a foreign country. In September 2022, a temple was defaced with anti-India slogans by Khalistani extremists from Canada.
