Shifa tweeted after the attack, ‘Is it a crime to demand your rights? My family has been attacked by mob for demanding to wear hijab. Mob has destroyed our property, but I will not be afraid of these people and will fight strongly.

What happened so far during the hearing in the High Court
The Hijab controversy has been heard for seven days in the Karnataka High Court. During the hearing, it was argued on behalf of the petitioner’s lawyer that in Islam religion, it has been said to carry a cloth on the head, so the ban cannot be imposed. On the other hand, Advocate General said that the order of the government gives freedom to the institutions to decide the dress. The preamble of the Karnataka Education Act is to promote a secular environment. He says the state’s stand is that no religious identity clothing should be worn in school. Controversy started from Udupi
On 31 December 2021, students wearing hijab were refused to sit in the classroom at the Government PU College in Udupi, Karnataka, after which the controversy started. On February 8, a single bench of the High Court transferred the case to a larger bench. There are a total of eight petitions for hearing before the larger bench.
