Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) have been issued in all districts of Uttar Pradesh and internet services have been suspended in Prayagraj district as a security measure.

Police patrolling was intensified on Sunday in Prayagraj’s Chakia area, where gangster-turned-politician Ateeq Ahmed is home, a day after Uttar Pradesh police tightened security across the state, a day after Ateeq and his brother Ashraf was shot.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) have been issued in all districts of Uttar Pradesh to prevent any untoward incident. Internet services have been suspended in Prayagraj district as a security measure.

During a conversation with the media on Saturday night, three people posing as journalists shot dead the two brothers when the policemen were taking them to a medical college here for examination.

Briefing reporters about the incident, Prayagraj Commissioner of Police, Ramit Sharma had said on Saturday that the three assailants arrested soon after the incident had joined a group of media persons who tried to take sound bites from Ahmed and Ashraf. Were trying to.

“As per the mandatory legal requirement, Ahmed and Ashraf were brought to the hospital for medical examination. As per preliminary information, three persons posing as journalists approached him and started firing. Ahmed and Ashraf were killed in the attack. The attackers have been nabbed and are being interrogated,” Sharma said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has constituted a three-member judicial commission to probe the murder of Ahmed and his brother.

The two brothers, who were jailed in Prayagraj, were executed in full view of camera crews around 10 pm on Saturday night while they were handcuffed. The horrifying visuals were widely circulated on social media platforms and television channels. Ahmed’s son Asad, who was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi on April 13, was cremated here hours before he was shot. Police constable Man Singh was injured in the incident as the bullet hit his hand, an official said, adding that a journalist was also injured when he fell during the commotion that followed the shooting.

Video footage showed a man pointing a gun at Ahmed’s head as he spoke to reporters and the former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP collapsed. The footage showed the three attackers firing at the brothers even after they fell.

The bullet-riddled bodies of Ahmed and Ashraf were removed from the spot due to tension in the area following the sensational killings.

In 2006, Ahmed and his associates kidnapped Umesh Pal and forced him to give a statement in their favor in court. Umesh Pal had lodged a complaint in this regard.

The Supreme Court had in April 2019 directed that Ahmed be transferred to a high-security jail in Gujarat for allegedly abducting and assaulting Lucknow-based real estate baron Mohit Jaiswal while he was in jail.

Police said Ahmed has more than 100 criminal cases registered against him, including the Umesh Pal murder case.

One of the most sensational murders in which Ahmed was allegedly involved was that of the then BSP MLA Raju Pal, who was shot dead in 2005.

Ahmed has moved the Supreme Court for protection, claiming that he and his family have been falsely implicated in the Umesh Pal murder case and may be killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
