Ateeq Ahmed shot dead Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a high-level inquiry into the murder of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed. The Chief Minister also directed the officials to set up a three-member judicial inquiry commission in the matter.

Death of Atiq and Ashraf

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by three assailants on Saturday night in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He was talking to the media while being taken to Prayagraj Medical College for examination when the assailants opened fire. He was shot from point blank range while being taken for medical examination at Prayagraj Medical College. The attack took place when Ateeq and Ashraf were interacting with the media and the entire scene was captured live by the cameras of television news channels.

3 people arrested

At least three people have reportedly been arrested. The attackers have been identified as Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny and Arun Maurya. The trio posed as media persons and were seen firing at close range at Ahmed and his brother, who fell to the ground. The police soon overpowered the attackers. According to sources, a 15-member team has reached the spot.

The bullet-riddled bodies of Ahmed and Ashraf have been removed from the spot due to tension in the area following the sensational killings. Ateeq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf Ahmed were brought for medical and three people posing as media persons giving byte to media and they were shot, where both of them died,” said Prayagraj Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma. Three persons have been arrested, they are being interrogated. A journalist was also injured due to the fall and a constable received bullet injuries.”

Interrogation has begun of three police constables who were present at the time of the incident, while another was injured. Meanwhile, Section 144 has been implemented in many areas of Prayagraj. Both were brought to Prayagraj for trial in the 2005 Umesh Pal murder case.
