AstraZeneca, Pfizer Received Vaccine? Recipients may need a booster dose, new study shows

New Delhi: For those taking Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs, here’s the latest research for your concern. New research by University College London (UCL) found that levels of coronavirus antibodies begin to drop as early as six weeks after a full vaccination with Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs. According to the researchers, this could reduce it by more than half in 10 weeks, indicating the need to get booster shots.

What are the new findings?

The findings of the research paper, published in The Lancet, are based on data from more than 600 people.

It has been found that antibody levels remain significantly higher after completion of two doses of either Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in India as Covishield by Serum Institute of India (SII). According to research, antibodies were found to be more in people who got both the jabs after recovering from Kovid-19.

The research highlights that while the clinical implications of a drop in antibody levels are still unclear, some of the decline was expected. Current research shows that vaccines remain effective against serious disease and these findings are consistent across groups of people regardless of age, chronic diseases, or gender.

India is also in talks to include the Pfizer vaccine in the nationwide immunization programme.

According to the findings, Pfizer, antibody levels decreased from an average of 7,506 U/mL on days 21-41 to 3,320 U/mL on days 70 or more. For AstraZeneca, they averaged 1,201 U/mL in 0–20 days to 190 U/mL (67–644) in 70 or more days. U/mL is the unit per millimeter.

Dr Maddy Schrotri of the UCL Institute of Health said: “The antibody levels were initially very high after both doses of the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine, which is likely a key part of why they are so effective against severe COVID-19. Why are you protective? information Science.

However, according to Shrotri, these levels have come down significantly over the course of two-three months. He added that if it continues to fall at this rate, the protective effects of vaccines may also begin to dwindle, particularly against variants; But it is not yet known how soon this could happen.
